Finals Week
Studying for finals can be stressful, and many students suffer from headaches during this time. There may be some alternatives to medication that can relieve the pain:
- Visualize yourself on a hot beach in order to raise your body temperature. Doing so should help lessen headache pain.
- Drink a cup of coffee. The caffeine constricts blood vessels, which reduces the flow of blood to the head.
- Breathing deeply by inhaling for four seconds and exhaling for four seconds helps as well.
In addition, we would like to remind all of our residents to keep their neighbors in mind during their post-finals celebrations. Remember, not everyone has completed their finals when you have, and some of our residents still work full time. Quiet enjoyment is everyone’s right! Good luck this final’s week!
Emergency Notification System (Buckeye Alert)
The Ohio State University is continually working to ensure that its students, faculty, staff, and visitors are in the safest environment possible. It is for this reason that The Ohio State University has created a text message alert system for the public to stay informed of potential emergencies.

Taking a Break
If you plan on heading out of town for spring break, be sure to prepare your apartment-home for your absence. Burglary is a crime of opportunity. Burglars aim for the easiest targets. Most burglars will give up and move on if they can’t get in within a few minutes. To keep burglars away from your apartment, make their work difficult, risky and low-profit.
When going on spring break:
- Take expensive, portable items with you
- Ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your home
- Don’t broadcast your absence
- Stop your mail and newspaper delivery, or have a neighbor collect them for you
- Lock all doors and windows. Leave all shades and blinds in their normal positions
- Connect one or two lamps and, perhaps, a radio to an automatic timer. They are inexpensive and help to make your home look occupied.
Report any common area lights that are out to our office. Be alert to suspicious behavior in your neighborhood. If you see a crime in progress or another emergency, call 911. To report suspicious behavior, call the Columbus Police at 645-4545.
Together, we can help take a bite out of crime! For more information on crime prevention and safety services, you may reach the Columbus Division of Police web site at www.police.ci.columbus.oh.us.
Anyone wishing to get involved in crime prevention in our community can also contact the Community Crime Patrol at 299-2279.
Buckeye Real Estate wishes you a most safe and enjoyable spring break!
Maintenance 101: Storm Awareness
Snow, ice, high winds and severe storms can cause damage and lead to power outages. As we experienced this past Autumn, these outages may last a few days.
In an effort to prepare you for a storm, we have assembled these tips.
Should damage to your unit, or the exterior of your building, occur; please notify the Buckeye Real Estate maintenance department immediately. You can call 614-297-3827 or place a request online at www.buckeyerealestate.com . If your work request is a property threatening emergency, please contact our emergency maintenance line directly at 614-448-2542.
Before the threat of a power outage, prepare an emergency kit. The kit should include:
- a flashlight with spare batteries
- a battery-operated radio and clock
- first-aid kit
- canned, freeze-dried or dehydrated food
- a manual can opener
- bottled water
- blankets
- important phone numbers
- cash (ATMs may not be operating)
- and other specialty items, such as prescription medication
Stay abreast of the current weather conditions, and know what the various weather advisories mean and when you should begin your storm preparations.
Keep a standard phone handy and learn to open your garage door manually. Many cordless phones and automatic garage door openers only work with electricity.
If you have a laptop or cell phone, keep them full charged so you will have alternate ways to communicate. Keep your car's gas tank full in case you need of emergency travel.
